this is real
a real snowstorm. a moment made real. watch how the winter between us was made.
a letter, before you decide
there you are. and the winter is between you. not between lovers. between you and love itself.
i have watched it happen to the kindest people i know. two good people, inches apart, miles away. both of them saying "i'm fine." both of them freezing.
you see, numbness does not come from the cold. it comes from the structures within. you can freeze bare-chested in the storm, or freeze wrapped in furs. it makes no difference. the cold you feel is the distance you built and called dignity.
somewhere along the way you learned a role and called it love. maybe the one who endures: who suffers quietly and calls it devotion, who tightens the jaw and calls it strength. maybe the one who waits: calm, composed, never needing, never asking, telling herself she will turn when he asks.
and the world applauded the performance. it called you dependable. it called your distance grace. and every year the road grew longer and the snow grew deeper, and neither of you moved.
you have mistaken structure for safety. you have called performance love. you have followed the script so tightly that your heart forgot how to speak.
but love does not live in roles. love does not demand suffering. love lives in truth.
i made this edition for the moment someone moves. not forward. toward. the umbrella shifted. the coat shared. the thing you have been saying to an empty chair for years, finally said to the person in front of you.
inside is a signed and numbered fine art print of "the winter between us." a manuscript that names the cold between you and love. and a handwritten letter from me to you, because the warmest things are never typed. they are written by hand and carried across the world.
it arrives sealed. by hand. with the ritual of the empty chair inside, for the conversation you have been having alone for years.
this edition was made for Avalon members. now it is offered one final time. ten thousand letters will exist in this world. not one more. it does not return. it does not reprint. what passes, passes.
so if the winter is between you. if your hands ache to turn and hold someone, and you keep waiting to be asked. do not wait to be asked. it was never about enduring the cold. it was about building a fire, together.
i love you.

how to open it
when the envelope arrives, do not tear it open. set it down somewhere quiet. light a candle. breathe. this is the last moment before it begins.
break the seal. take each piece out one at a time. the artwork first. then the manuscript. then the letter. then the chapter, the mark and the keepsake. last, the ritual card. the order matters. the order is the ritual.
you will feel something move in your chest. something that has been frozen in politeness for a long time. do not rush past it. do not explain it. let it melt the distance you built in the name of dignity.
